Description

From time to time, almost perfect climatic conditions give a winery a simply exceptional vintage. The first of these rare moments was in 1999, when the copious rains in winter and spring were followed by warm, mild and sunny months of ripening. The fruit of this vintage was so extraordinary that a small number of Chardonnay parcels were reserved at Clover Hill to produce the Cuvée Exceptionnelle Blanc de Blancs.

Whenever the Clover Hill winemaker have found such conditions since then and extremely high-quality Chardonnay vintages are available, they remember this experience and produce the Cuveé Exceptionelle´.

So also in 2013: the extensively wet start to the 2013 winemaking season allowed the vines to grow and flourish. The extended ripening period that followed allowed them to develop to their full potential while maintaining the high intensity and natural acidity.

The Chardonnay harvested from Block A was found to be the best of the winery. The grapes were gently pressed, fermented and underwent malolactic fermentation. After fermentation, the must in the tank was left on the wine yeast and the yeast sediment was stirred up regularly. After tirage and bottling, the wine was left on the lees for 5 years before the yeast deposit was removed.

The result: the CLOVER HILL CUVÉE EXCEPTIONAL BLANC DE BLANC VINTAGE 2013 WAS INCLUDED IN THE ROW OF THE TOP 10 SPARKLING WINES WITH 95 POINTS IN HALLIODAY 2020.

A fantastic sparkling wine in appearance and taste! Wonderful golden color in the glass with fine mousse pearls. An elegant and intense wine, as is customary with wines made using the traditional method, aromas of toast, brioche and honey come through. Very fine, precisely balanced acidity and unbelievable length. Delicious pleasure.

First launched in 2018, it can easily be stored for another 10 years.
