Barossa
The Barossa Valley is the oldest and probably best-known wine region in Australia, about 70 km northeast of Adelaide in the Australian state of South Australia. But this wine region alone accounts for over 60% of the total wine production in Australia!
Apart from the Cape region in South Africa, it is the Shiraz Mecca in general. Barossa is exciting in any case: the winemakers here look back on centuries of wine tradition and, like in Europe, can sometimes use very old vines.
In contrast to the cool Tasmania, the warmest wine-growing region on the continent is simply ideal for the development of the more robust Shiraz. The wines made there stand for opulence and full-bodiedness, yes, real power. 15% volume percent is definitely achieved here, so that these deep, powerful wines are not only very intense, they also show great elegance in the top segment thanks to the softly integrated tannins. More like a GT than a GTI.
