Clover Hill

Just between us: Clover Hill was the initial inspiration for us that ultimately led to WineDinePro. We got to know the sparkling wine while visiting friends in Australia and were immediately fascinated by its elegance.

Clover Hill was founded in 1986 by the Franco-American Goelet family with the clearly defined goal of producing sparkling wines that can compete with the best champagnes. From 1991 on, in the first ten years of wine production – contrary to European tradition – only vintage wines were bottled; the introduction of the Non-Vintage Cuvees only began ten years later by end of 2001. Another special feature was the atypical focus on the production of Chardonnay, which in France has the smallest share in champagne production (after Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier), which should ultimately lead to terrific Blanc de Blancs.

The Pipers Brook region in Northern Tasmania was chosen after an extensive search. The 66 hectare property turned out to be very suitable and simply produces excellent sparkling wines due to the nature of the soil, the location of the vineyards and the maritime climate conditions. With the first harvest in 1991, the success story of Clover Hill Blanc de Blancs began. Since then, the winery has made a name for itself for its uncompromising quality and consistent first-class sparkling wines and has received a number of awards: Clover Hill was named Tasmanian Vineyard of the Year in 2005 and 2016, and in 2016 as confirmation of its ongoing excellence, inducted into the Australian Sparkling Hall of Honor.

In the current 2021 Halliday Wine Companion Awards, James Halliday lists 2 products by Clover Hill among the top sparklings in Australia: the 2013 Vintage Clover Hill Cuvee Exceptionnelle (Method Traditionnelle Blanc de Blancs) and the (reserva-) vintage 2008 Clover Hill Cuvee Prestige Late Disgorged (also a Blanc de Blancs).
